A Fast Algorithm For 2D Rigidity Percolation

Nina JAVERZAT (PostDoc, PSM)

Rigidity Percolation (RP) attracted much attention in the Soft Matter community, as an elegant framework to understand the emergence of solidity in amorphous systems. Liquid/solid transitions in colloidal gels, fiber networks or living tissues can indeed be understood by focusing on locally rigid structures (clusters), that grow and coalesce until one eventually percolates the whole system, giving it macroscopic mechanical stability. I will present new theoretical results on RP, and explain how to use them to design an exact algorithm to simulate the RP transition that scales almost linearly in the system's size. I will end with my favorite perspectives.

Wavefront Shaping for Light Focusing into Complex Media: Digital Micromirror Devices & Lee Holography

Ettore BERTOLINI (PhD, OPTIMA)

Waves traveling through disordered or complex media often generate highly intricate interference patterns, making it extremely difficult to gather clear information using standard imaging techniques like optical microscopy. This poses a major obstacle and requires a deeper understanding of wave behavior in such environments.

Over the past few years, researchers have developed methods to spatially shape waves in order to enhance control over how energy propagates in scattering media. In my research, I take this a step further by focusing not just on energy control, but on optimizing the amount of information that can be extracted from the scattered wave field. To do this, I combine principles from wave physics and information theory, and I validate these ideas through experimental setups using wavefront shaping technologies in optics.
