Thesis defence
On October 5, 2023
Aleksandra Koroleva
Water is the first absorber and the main greenhouse gas in the Earth’s atmosphere. The general aim of this thesis is to contribute to a better characterization of H2O absorption spectrum (water monomer lines and the continuum).
Experimental data were acquired at room temperature using a Fourier-transform spectrometer in the far-infrared range and a Cavity Ring-Down spectrometer in the near-infrared.
The first chapter presents theoretical and experimental basis of this work. The second and the third chapters are devoted to measurements of parameters of water monomer lines and continuum. Line positions and intensities were determined for about 3000 and 5400 lines in the far- and near-infrared ranges (these are the first experimental data for more than 2000 lines). Previously unknown information on water-related continuum is obtained and used for atmospheric continuum model verification. Good agreement with known experimental data is demonstrated both for the lines and for the continuum.
