Description & Missions
Faced with the fact that much scientific equipment is underused or stored in cupboards (“dormant equipment”), LIPhy has developed an internal digital solution to make it visible and accessible to all.
The Matosthèque has multiple objectives:
- Pooling: Enabling all laboratory members to find and borrow available equipment (oscilloscopes, cameras, pumps, etc.) rather than purchasing it.
- Inventory: Provide a centralized, visual database of the laboratory's equipment.
- Empower: Encourage reuse and reduce the carbon footprint associated with purchasing new equipment.
- Secure: Manage loans via a reservation and validation system by the equipment owner.
Features
The platform is designed to be simple and intuitive:
- Online catalog: Search by keyword, category, or availability.
- Reservation: Real-time availability calendar to plan your experiments.
- Traceability: Each piece of equipment can be identified by a unique QR code, facilitating access to its technical specifications and history.
- Community: The equipment remains the property of the team or individual, who approves loan requests.

An Open Source initiative
Developed in-house (Python/Django), the Matosthèque is an Open Source project.
The code is available to any laboratory or institution wishing to deploy its own shared instance, and recommendations for this deployment can be obtained by contacting the persons indicated at the bottom of the page.
The project is currently being expanded to include consumables management and a “Ressourcerie” (donations) feature, in collaboration with other institutes.
