Researcher of the PSM team at LIphy, professor at the University of Grenoble Alpes. See you on November 22 for the awarding of his prize.
Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Physics Laboratory (CNRS/University of Grenoble Alpes), professor of physics at the University of Grenoble Alpes.
Jean-Louis Barrat holds a PhD from the University of Paris 6. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Munich and Santa Barbara. After having been from 1988 to 1994 a CNRS researcher at the ENS of Lyon, he joined the University of Lyon, where he created a research group on modeling in materials science. In 2011, he joined the University of Grenoble and received the CNRS silver medal in 2012. Jean-Louis Barrat's research focuses on statistical physics, condensed matter and materials physics. As a specialist in complex fluids, his field of expertise is broad: he combines his theoretical work with more applied aspects, some of which are related to engineering sciences such as the rheology of complex fluids. His work on the physics of liquids and interfaces is internationally recognized.
The Michelin Foundation - Academy of Sciences Grand Prize of €30,000.
This annual prize, founded by the Michelin Foundation, is intended to reward a senior scientist who has made an outstanding contribution to the following fields through a body of work
- Physics of polymeric materials
- Physics of composite materials
- Elasticity
- Wear of materials
- Calculation and simulation
A sustainable mobility dimension will be associated with these themes.
The Michelin Foundation - Academy of Sciences Grand Prize will be awarded regardless of nationality to a scientist working in France or in Europe in close collaboration with French teams and whose work has led to the emergence of breakthrough innovations and approaches through a series of recognized scientific advances that have helped to advance issues arising in the industrial or business world for more sustainable mobility, in one of the scientific and technological fields mentioned above.
