The power of turgor pressure in plants

In this internal seminar we will present ongoing research on two spectacular effects of turgor pressure. First, we will try to unravel the secret behind the very expressive Spathiphyllum plant, a  popular interior plant. After two weeks without watering, this plant seems to cry for help, showing leaves completely falling on the ground. This is reversible upon rewatering. Second, we will presents recent results on the strong forces generated by seeds inflating in confined spaces, using chickpeas.
