Living soft tissues are materials with complex architectures combining fibres, extracellular matrix and other constituents. Their mechanical characterization is a real challenge, due to the limitations of in vivo possibilities and the representativeness of post-mortem tests. The aim here is to carry out the most representative mechanical tests possible, so as to be able to define representative constitutive equations. The difficulty is that the equation must describe physical phenomena and not be based on experimental dispersions which are inerrant to problems in the living tissue (with inter-individual dispersion, the difficulty of having homogeneous samples...). The modelling of various phenomena is treated such as anisotropy, softening or viscoelasticity.
