The systems studied are disordered solids and dense suspensions. Our approach combines particle scale modeling, coarse-graining to simplified descriptions, and sometimes approximate analytical treatment of the resulting models.
The questions addressed are mainly:
  • Plasticity of soft amorphous materials (foams, gels, cellular monolayers ...), coupling microscopic, mesoscopic and macroscopic approaches (K. MARTENS, J.-L. BARRAT)
  • Thermal and thermomechanical properties in heterogeneous elastic materials (J.-L. BARRAT)
  • Rheology of dense suspensions, linking microscopic interactions to macroscopic behavior (R. MARI, E. BERTIN)
